You, as a Project Manager, will:

  • Provide technical engineering information to employees and subcontractors to ensure project complies with all engineering standards, codes, specifications, and design instructions
  • Develop new business opportunities through a particular client.  Performs all functions and responsibilities in consonance with the company’s values and beliefs.
  • Assist in plan and specification analysis in order to provide clear, trackable and coordinated interpretations of the design/drawings for construction
  • Assist in the evaluation and solution of potential field problems and report them to the Project Superintendent for strategy review and implementation control.
  • Understand and perform document control functions, including tracking and creating of RFI’s, transmitting and tracking of submittals, compose agreements and maintain project expediting list
  • Develop, implement and monitor the construction schedule providing input to allow the Project Superintendent to deliver the project on time and under budget
  • Plan a construction project and prepare a construction schedule in conjunction with the Project Superintendent.
  • Coordinate fully and develop a copacetic relationship with the Project Superintendent to get the project completed.
  • Process contract drawings and specifications and ensure that the building is built in accordance with these documents.
  • Ensure that the contract drawings are the same as the estimate set of drawings for plan and spec projects and PSOS compliant for Design Build Projects.
  • Process changes received from the Owner or Owners appointed representative including contacting the subcontractor for pricing, checking subcontractors quotations to ensure that they are complete and reasonable; and itemizing changes and presenting them to the Architect with confidence that the pricing is in accordance with the changes.
  • Meet with Owners and Architects in a professional manner and have the ability to communicate effectively both the concerns and best interests of the company.
  • Ensure payment in full for the contract price including all accumulative changes and credits, etc.
  • Instill a positive working relationship with the Owner and Architect to ensure repeat business.
  • Prepare regular, timely and accurate billings for Owners, and ensure timely payment of subcontractor billings.
  • Monitor in conjunction with the Project Superintendent, a project’s material and labour costs and ensure accurate quality reporting is being conducted. Be aware of unit costs and monitor and compare daily progress on site with that of the project’s estimate in conjunction with the Project Superintendent.
  • Produce and track daily production data in KPI driven production curves for the purposes of predictive scope delivery and early indication for the need to accelerate to maintain the Schedule.
  • Present oneself as promotable, innovative, creative, and a self-starter.
  • Recognize competent subordinates worthy of promotion and be abreast of position vacancies to ensure staff progression.
  • Analyze the strengths of project staff and provide coaching and opportunity to take on new responsibilities to further their targeted career development.
  • Conduct project meetings, bi-weekly or monthly as needed.
  • Co-ordinate, manage and communicate with all subcontractors and effectively deal with problems such as delivery, labor, schedule and payment disputes.
  • Maintain a good working knowledge of trade unions, their agreements and stipulations.
  • Be alert to new projects coming up and ensure all necessary company management are kept informed of such information.
  • Ensure that the project is in a positive cash flow position and prepare Project Manager reports accurately and timely for submission to the Area Manager.

Is this the right role for you?

  • Construction related degree/diploma
  • 10+ years of construction experience
  • Working knowledge of scheduling, project management, and contract software
  • Have experience working on complex Construction ICI projects
  • Ability to support the project team and helping to solve construction issues in a time sensitive situations
  • Educational and experience requirements include engineering degree or equivalent combinations
  • Ability to apply innovative and effective management techniques to maximize employee performance. Thorough understanding of corporate and industry practices, processes, standards etc. and their impact on project activities vital.
  • Superior communication and interpersonal (tact, diplomacy, influence etc.) skills essential.
  • Have the ability to read, interpret, analyze and forecast a project’s cost reports and determine the status of the job in terms of schedule and costing.
